Dynamic Radio Resource Management in OFDMA cellular systems

Adaptive multi-user resource allocation is one of the most promising technological breakthroughs that could improve performance of future broadband wireless communications. In a multi-cell scenario where co-channel interference is the performance limiting factor, resource allocation algorithms, selecting those channels with high Signal-to-Interference and Noise-Ratio can reduce the transmission power in each base station so acting indirectly on reducing co-channel interference levels.

In this perspective, the following research activities are carrying out:

•    Study and analysis of efficient algorithms for adaptive allocation of bandwidth, power and modulation in OFDMA systems in single-cell environment in one (frequency) and two (frequency and time) dimensions, for applications to WiMAX and LTE networks.
•    Study of the evolution of the co-channel interference in presence of distributed dynamic allocation strategies in cellular environment.
•    Theoretical limits in presence of multi-cellular interference
